Roy Keane lays into WAGs over 'ridiculous' World Cup behaviour as Gary Neville loses it

Manchester United icon and former Republic of Ireland midfielder Roy Keane tore into WAGs at the World Cup over their ‘ridiculous’ behaviour in England’s win over Croatia
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has slammed England WAGs for wearing shirts with their partners’ surnames on for the Three Lions clash with Croatia.
As is often the case, wives and girlfriends of the England stars have traveled out to the United States to cheer on the team for this summer’s World Cup.
However, Keane could not believe that some WAGs were wearing England strips with their partner’s name on the back, with Jude Bellingham’s girlfriend Ashlyn Castro one of those wearing a Three Lions top.
Not all of the WAGs followed suit, but the United legend, who is out in the States for punditry duty, could not believe his eyes.
When asked by his former team-mate Gary Neville what he’d banish to Room 101 – bringing an end to its existence – Keane told The Overlap: “Oh, the jersey? The World Cup, when all the players’ wives and families are going to the match, all the wives are in the jerseys with the players’ names on the back, wow.”

“Children is fine, but the wives and partners wearing their jerseys, with their name on the back, wow.”
There was an awkward silence in the room from his fellow podcast hosts, with co-host Ian Wright coming to the WAGS defence. Wright said: “I don’t mind that.”
Keane replied: “You not with me on that? A year later they are separated, most of them. And they’re all getting pictures, and they’re pointing at a Jimmy or Johnny on the back, wow. We know who you are married to.”
His comment saw Wright and Neville lose it, as they were left in stitches, before adding: “Children is fine, the partners is ridiculous. All sitting in the same family section, I’ve got my jersey, have you got yours? I’m not having it.”
“I don’t mind it Roy,” Wright then said. “Her husband is playing and she’s proud of him and she wants to wear his shirt it seems as simple as that.”
However, Keane was still having none of it. He said: “They only do it at the World Cup, you don’t see it at Old Trafford or Anfield every week.
“So what’s with the World Cup? Imagine a woman going, ‘I’m going to put a football jersey on today with my husband’s name on the back.'”
Harry Kane, Bellingham and Jordan Pickford were spotted in the stands with their WAGs after the 4-2 win over Croatia.
Thomas Tuchel has scrapped one of Gareth Southgate’s golden rules for the tournament, allowing the wives and girlfriends of his players into their World Cup training base.
It’s a stark difference from how England camps looked under his predecessor with the competition in its second week.
