A homeowner tried multiple products, including baking soda and vinegar, but none worked – until she discovered a household trick that left her oven glass door sparkling

Greasy oven doors rank among the most difficult cleaning tasks in any kitchen, with burnt-on grime stubbornly adhering to the glass, no matter how vigorously you scrub. The internet is awash with DIY tricks and product suggestions, with popular approaches ranging from traditional cleaning staples like white vinegar and baking soda to industrial-strength creams.

Yet they frequently prove ineffective against thick, baked-on grease.

Becca Dwyer, a member of the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and Tricks Facebook page, discovered this the hard way while helping her mum clean her oven. Fortunately, she stumbled upon a solution that tackles even the most stubborn stains and leaves her oven door “sparkling” once more, reports the Express.

She began: “Hi. This is the glass from my mother’s oven door. I was cleaning her oven today as she can’t bend down.

“I’ve tried Pink Stuff paste, Elbow Grease cream, dishwasher tablet, aerial pod, also baking soda and vinegar, but nothing shifted it.”

Despite baking soda and vinegar being widely celebrated as a cleaning duo, it appears the science doesn’t support the enthusiasm.

Even the specialists at Dri-Pak have commented, stating: “One thing that isn’t really the best solution, despite lots of internet tips, is to use bicarbonate of soda and then add white vinegar.

“The effect will be reduced because the acid white vinegar is neutralising the alkalinity of the baking soda, and it’s that which dissolves the grease.”

According to Becca, the solution to her problem emerged from an unexpected yet straightforward alternative. She said, “Someone then suggested soda crystals to me, and it worked so much better than anything I’ve tried. It’s now sparkling.”

Dri-Pak supports this with a strong recommendation of the product: “Soda crystals are excellent for dissolving grease and working on stubborn, burnt-on food.”

The crystals can be applied in solution or sprayed on in liquid form, then left to work for twenty minutes before being wiped clean. For more stubborn patches, dry soda crystals offer a gentle abrasive action to lift away any lingering grime.
