How to Watch ‘Skywalkers: A Love Story,’ The 2024 Doc About the Empire State Building Climbers

A couple of climbers were certainly in an empire state of mind on Wednesday (July 1), having climbed the Empire State Building and getting engaged at the top.
CNN reports that two masked climbers—later identified by the New York Police Department (NYPD) as Angela Nikolau and Ivan Kuznetsov (also known as Ivan Beerkus)—were spotted yesterday atop the New York City landmark. According to ABC7, the two were holding a flag which read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.” Nikolau took to Instagram yesterday to share pictures from their dangerous engagement endeavor.
Per ABC News, Nikolau and Beerkus, who were arrested yesterday, appeared in court this morning, where they were given supervised release after being charged with reckless endangerment, burglary and other charges. However, the couple, who are set to return to court on Aug. 24, are no strangers to these scary stunts, nor to the public.
Nikolau and Beerkus are the subjects of Skywalkers: A Love Story, a documentary that made its debut at the 2024 Sundance Festival. The film follows the couple as they set out to climb the second highest skyscraper in the world, and their willingness to put their safety at risk for the thrill of the climb.
DECIDER contributor John Serba wrote in his 2024 Skywalkers: A Love Story review, “Don’t watch Skywalkers for its love-story shenanigans – those are tough to swallow. Watch it to test your acrophobia, and for the keenly observational metaphors lurking beneath the blatantly contrived ones.”
