Steak ‘n Shake announced its month-long Liberty Meal deal to celebrate America’s 250th birthday — and used the occasion to taunt a competitor.

“$17.76 for two Liberty Meals — all July long!” the burger chain wrote on X. “A Liberty Meal includes a double grass-fed Steakburger, beef tallow fries and a Patriot Milkshake. Can’t touch this, Mr. Five Guys…”

The post garnered 1.5 million views and nearly 1,000 comments.

“Yo @FiveGuys, how will y’all respond?” wrote one X user.

“They don’t need to respond. Five Guys food is so much better,” replied another.

“They respond by being good and filling,” wrote someone else. “Both companies will satisfy one’s individual hunger for $17.76.”

Other comments expressed excitement about the Liberty Meal, with praise from customers who had already tried it and disappointment from would-be customers who lamented the lack of nearby Steak ‘n Shake locations.

“Love the July deal, we will be stopping by the new @SteaknShake location in Royal Oak, MI for this!” one X user wrote.

“That’s a great deal!” commented someone else. “Going to Steak ‘n Shake with my kids this week.”

Some X users were less than impressed with the price.

“Wait that’s a sale price?” someone wrote. “What’s the regular price? That looks like a McDonald’s double cheeseburger. Pretty weak for close to 20 bucks.”

“You would need a home-equity loan for that at Five Guys.”

Another user said $9 for a burger and fries was outrageous (the deal also includes a milkshake), and another person responded, “What century are you from?”

“That’s easily $40 at Five Guys,” remarked another X user.

“You would need a home-equity loan for that at Five Guys,” wrote someone else.

“Yeah, but there are 12 Five Guys in Philly, and zero of you,” another person wrote, joining several X commenters who said they wished there were more Steak ‘n Shake restaurants to patronize.

After closing about 200 restaurants between 2018 and 2025, Steak ‘n Shake has been undergoing a broader turnaround effort, QSR Magazine reported last year.

A March post from Steak ‘n Shake announcing that its Patriot Shake, topped with patriotic sprinkles and a dark-chocolate Statue of Liberty, would be priced at $2.50 for the rest of the year went viral, as Fox News Digital reported.
