Neymar retires from national team after Brazil’s latest World Cup failure: ‘I tried’

Neymar Jr. is ending his international soccer career. 

The Brazilian soccer star told reporters after Brazil lost to Norway, 2-1, in the Round of 16, that he was ending his time playing for the national team.

“I tried. I tried. It started here at MetLife Stadium, and I finished here. It is now over,” Neymar said. 

He scored the only goal for Brazil on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, ending his national team career with 80 goals in 130 appearances. He also recorded 59 assists.

Brazil has not won the World Cup since 2002.
