Irish murderer who strangled American nurse led perverted life tracking women to hook up with

The Irish murderer who strangled American nurse Mackenzie Michalski after a night out in Budapest was identified as a perverted fiend who frequently filmed women in public before they rejected his advances.
Lorcan Tadgh Murphy – who was convicted on Thursday in the Nov. 5, 2024, killing of Michalski in his Budapest apartment – kept troves of files of his secretly recorded encounters with random women on his computer, the Irish Independent reported.
Hungarian police painted a theory of Murphy’s “perversion” using the recordings and digital diary entries where he said his only motivation in life was picking up and having sex with women.
Murphy, who was 37 during his deadly encounter with the 31-year-old Michalski, had footage of 16 different women, all of whom declined his offers, according to the outlet.
He kept a personal record of the best European cities where he found the most success with “hot and how willing” women were.
He also made a record of his attempts with women, hoping to get to 1,000 before the fatal encounter with Michalski.
Murphy claimed he had “a few whiskeys” at his apartment before going to a bar where he saw the New York native talking to another man, he told the Budapest Metropolitan Court on Tuesday.
Michalski, who was working as a nurse in Portland, Ore., had just finished a European trip with a friend and was experiencing Budapest nightlife ahead of her return flight to the US.
“I saw her three times [in the bar],” Murphy said, according to the outlet. “Initially, Mackenzie was with another man. I saw her sitting on a bench. She was looking at me. She kept looking at me. I interpreted this as an invitation [to approach her].”
Murphy eventually made his way closer to Michalski, where they ordered a few 16-ounce beers and talked before finding a “more secluded part of the bar.”
The Irish man told the court he didn’t think Michalski was drunk as they left the bar to go to a nightclub to dance.
Video footage captured the two walking hand-in-hand as they made it to Murphy’s apartment building before the two made it inside and on an elevator, the last known footage of Michalski.
Murphy then claimed the two engaged in consensual sadomasochistic sex.
Michalski’s autopsy report found her hands had been tied with a belt while Murphy assaulted her, beating her hands and chest, biting her upper arms and strangling her for roughly three minutes, the outlet reported.
Michalski’s corpse showed signs of blunt force trauma to the head along with injuries throughout the rest of her body.
Video of Michalski’s abused, naked and bound corpse was discovered on Murphy’s phone by police.
Along with the disturbing footage, investigators discovered Murphy’s search history that included how to dispose of a body, whether pigs really eat dead bodies, wild boars in the Lake Balaton, Hungary area and the competence of Budapest police.
He admitted to purchasing a suitcase to stuff his victim in before driving her nearly 100 miles to a wooded area where he dumped her body.
Michalski’s parents blasted Murphy’s claims in court, asking how he was able to “besmirch” her with the outlandish claims involving “a perverse (BDSM sexual) culture which she was not part of.”
Hungarian law protected Murphy’s identity, only identifying him by the initials LTM, but the Irish Independent identified him on Sunday as a matter of public interest, according to the outlet.
The man told the court he didn’t mean to kill Michalski, calling it an accident during the “intimate encounter.”
Murphy was found guilty of murder on Thursday, a verdict his lawyers quickly appealed, slamming it as “absolute nonsense,”
He was sentenced to 14 years in a Hungarian prison and will face deportation immediately after his release, where he will be banned from the country for 10 additional years.
The Budapest Metropolitan Court gave him a year and a half reduction of his sentence for time served before his conviction.
