Sam Neill Movies Streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and More

Movie-lovers woke up to sad news on Monday morning: Sam Neill, the celebrated New Zealand actor best known for playing Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, has died. He was 78 years old.
The news was announced by Neill’s family in an Instagram post, which wrote that, despite his Stage III blood cancer diagnosis—which the actor announced publicly in 2023—his death was “sudden and unexpected, but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free.”
We do not know Sam Neill’s cause of death at this time, but the family said in their statement that “more details will be shared later,” and asked for privacy at this time.
For cinephiles, there is no better way to honor Neill than by revisiting some of the fantastic films that earned him a top spot on the list of Hollywood greats. Neill will, of course, be remembered for his iconic performance as the gentle paleontologist in Jurassic Park. Unfortunately, the 1993 Jurassic Park is not currently available to watch on a subscription-based streaming service. (That said, you can buy or rent the film on digital platforms like Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Google Play, and more.)
But there are plenty of other Sam Neill movies streaming free on Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and more. You’re already paying so much for streamers per month, so you might as well take advantage of those services. Read on for a list of Sam Neill movies streaming on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Peacock, HBO Max, and more.

Look, I know the new Jurassic World films are a poor substitute for the original 1993 masterpiece. But Jurassic Park is not streaming on Netflix, and Jurassic World Dominion is, which will now forever be Neill’s final appearance as Dr. Alan Grant. Thankfully, the movie gave Neill a significant role, and reunited him with fellow OG Jurassic Park actors Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum. And if you watch the extended addition, you’ll get even more of Neill in his career-defining, iconic character.

Get a glimpse of Neill’s paternal side in The Vow, a romantic drama starring Rachel McAdams as a woman who ends up in a coma, prompting her parents to meet her husband (Channing Tatum) for the very first time. Neill stars as McAdams’s on-screen father, Bill, who, despite his faults, loves his daughter to the end of the world and back. You’ll want a box of tissues present when you watch this one.

If you want to see Sam Neill connect with his New Zealand roots, check out this delightful little indie comedy, based on the 1986 novel Wild Pork and Watercress by Barry Crump. Written and directed by Taiki Waiti (What We Do In the Shadows, Thor: Ragnarok), the movie stars Neill as “Uncle” Hector, who takes in a foster child (Julian Dennison) and ends up stranded in the New Zealand wilderness with him. It’s a fun two-hander that really lets Neill flaunt his comedy chops.

If you’re looking for some really early work from Sam Neill, then you should check out this period drama streaming on HBO Max. Based on the 1901 novel of the same name by Miles Franklin, this critically-acclaimed drama stars Neill as a wealthy man in rural Australia in 1897, who courts a free-spirited young woman named Sybylla (Judy Davis). The film was lauded by critics and earned numerous AFI awards, and is considered a staple of Australian cinema.

Get a taste of Sam Neill’s villainous side in this submarine spy thriller. Before he was Dr. Alan Grant, Neill was a Russian army captain as part of the Jack Ryan cinematic universe. The movie, based on Tom Clancy’s 1984 bestselling novel of the same name, stars Alec Baldwin as CIA specialist Jack Ryan, who is tasked with eliminating the threat a Russian Soviet Navy submarine poses to the U.S.

On top of everything else he could do, Sam Neill was a great horror actor. Nowhere else was that more clear than in John Carpenter’s 1994 supernatural, Lovecraftian horror film. Neill stars as John Trent, an insurance investigator who looks into the disappearance of a big shot horror novelist. His search takes him to a small town, where the line between reality and horror fiction seems to blur. Though it never achieved the same success as John Carpenter’s The Thing, the movie is considered a horror cult classic.

Sam Neill plays a man of the law in The Commuter, which is one of the better “Liam Neeson saving people” movies. (See also: 2008’s Taken, 2015’s Run All Night, 2011’s The Grey, and so on.) Neill plays NYPD Captain David Hawthorne in this action thriller, which stars Neeson as a former NYPD officer who gets roped into a criminal heist on a commuter train.
