Female deputy sheriff busted in San Francisco for allegedly groping inmate’s breast

A female deputy sheriff in San Francisco faces criminal charges for for allegedly groping an inmate’s breast, officials said.

Nanette Musto, 51, was on the job at San Francisco County Jail #2 Sunday when she allegedly approached a female inmate and asked, “whether she had surgically augmented her body,” the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office said in a statement issued Monday.

After the inmate answered, Musto allegedly reached out and, “without permission or lawful necessity, touched the inmate’s breast,” the DA’s office said.

The DA’s office said Musto, who’s worked for the sheriff’s office since 2017, asked the inmate the crude question “apparently due to rumors being spread by other jail inmates.”

The vile act “caused the inmate to feel humiliated and embarrassed,” the DA’s office said.

The alleged incident was captured on jail surveillance footage, prosectors said. Musto faces charges for battery and assault and may be punished by up to six months in jail. Court records show she was arrested and released on $3,000 bail.

The DA’s office said the case remains an active investigation by San Francisco’s Department of Police Accountability, as well as the DA.

Musto is due back in court Tuesday to enter her plea.

The bust is just the latest in a string of sexual misconduct accusations recently leveled at sheriff’s deputies who guard the jails in San Francisco.

A group of women prisoners sued the sheriff’s office in May, alleging that deputies strip-searched them and recorded the act with their body-worn cameras, in violation of a written policy forbidding their use in such a setting, according to court records.

And, last fall, the sheriff’s office fired a 33-year-old deputy over allegations of sexually assaulting a transgender inmate, the news site Mission Local reports.
