The surprising reason Lenny Kravitz works out in leather pants

Lenny’s leather never goes out of style.

The 62-year-old covers the latest issue of Men’s Health Magazine to discuss his workout habits — and one of his more head-scratching wardrobe choices.

Well-known for working out in leather pants or jeans, the sartorial decision has a somewhat logical and logistical explanation.

“I perform onstage in leather, denim, whatever, so those are the pants I wear to train,” he said.

And, in the interest of practicality, “It also means I can fit in a workout anytime, anywhere.”

As for tracking his physique? It’s all about how the clothes fit.

Wearing a mere size 28-inch pant, he shares, “I can gauge everything by how I’m in my pants … Like, if my pants are a little tight, I know I’m getting outta shape.”

Continuing, “My friend Denzel Washington gave me this phrase: ‘The pants don’t lie, the pants don’t lie.’”

Back in 2024, when Kravitz posted a video on Instagram lifting with his trainer at the gym, fans were confounded by the singer’s outfit.

“Man! Boots and leather pants while working out is crazy! Always on brand! 🔥🔥,” wrote one, while another echoed, “Leather pants, mesh top and sunglasses in the gym. Lenny is the man!”

Around the same time, the performer spoke with Variety to state, “I’m always working out in leather pants or jeans and boots and whatever — if I’m not doing cardio,” adding, “If I’m doing cardio, obviously I’m going to wear sweats because I’m going to be sweating all over the place. But if I’m lifting weights, I don’t sweat so much.”

Ironically, in the cover shoot for the latest issue of Men’s Health, Kravitz is wearing sweatpants with a mesh tank top.
