Luke Weaver maintaining focus as trade deadline questions loom

PHILADELPHIA — While most teams in the watered-down majors are at least considering holding onto their trade assets as the Aug. 3 deadline approaches, the Mets — even after opening the second half with a win over the Phillies — appear ready to sell.

One of the names at the top of the list, Luke Weaver, said he knows his days as a Met might be numbered, but he’d still like to stay with the team that signed him to a two-year deal last offseason.

“I committed to come here to give everything I’ve got for the two years,’’ Weaver said before Thursday’s win, during which he allowed his first earned run since April.

“I try to help this organization any way I can and if they see that same vision and continue to feel that confidence, then, amazing,’’ Weaver said. “But I understand how this game works. I’ve been a part of those situations, so I guess I’m mentally prepared from experience, but I’m not too focused on it.”
