Cancel Microsoft 365—You don’t need a subscription to get Word, Excel, and PowerPoint anymore

TL;DR: Cancel Microsoft 365 and replace it with a lifetime license to Microsoft Office on sale for $39.97 through July 26.
Microsoft doesn’t really advertise this, but Microsoft 365 isn’t the only way to get Word, Excel, and PowerPoint anymore. Instead of dropping $99.99 every year on apps you’ll be using your whole working life, switch back to Microsoft Office and get the same apps for life on sale for $39.97 (reg. $219).
This deal ends in 3 days, so if you want to cancel your Microsoft 365 subscription, now is the time to do it.
What’s included?
This license gives you lifetime access to
- Word
- Excel
- PowerPoint
- Outlook
- Teams
- OneNote
This is the 2021 version of Microsoft Office, so these apps may look a little different from what you’re used to if you’ve been using Microsoft 365, but that’s actually a good thing. Microsoft is constantly changing their apps and bloating them with features nobody asked for. With this license, your apps are stable and reliable. They still also get security updates, and you don’t have to worry about annoying AI integrations popping up everywhere telling you how to do your job.
A few of the little bonuses like cloud storage are missing, but Microsoft’s cloud storage options were never that impressive for how much you were already paying every month.
Hardware requirements are pretty minimal. Any modern Mac should be able to run this version of Office just fine.
It’s time to cancel Microsoft 365.
