The Vampire Lestat Episode 7 “The Failures” doubles as the Interview With a Vampire Season 3 finale, and it might also be teeing up the next installment in AMC‘s sprawling adaptations of Anne Rice‘s Vampire Chronicles.

The final episode of The Vampire Lestat explores the very soul of Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). We learn that after Armand (Assad Zaman) and Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian) beheaded Lestat and Louis (Jacob Anderson), they did different things with the bodies. Armand essentially held Louis hostage in an empty butcher’s shop to force him to apologize for the hurt he caused. (Armand only does this by threatening Delainey Hayles‘s Claudia döppelganger, who is revealed to have been manipulated by the other vampire the whole time!) Meanwhile, Daniel puts Lestat’s head in a bowling bag and walks it across town.

While Lestat’s head is separated from his body, he is treated to a strange feast with his creator Magnus (Damien Atkins), mother Gabriella (Jennifer Ehle), and all of his fledglings, including Louis. (Only Claudia skips out, as she shared her piece last week.) Lestat goes through the highs and mostly lows of his life, with the conclusion being that he is a failure. Hence, why his confessional recordings that propel the season are called the “Failures.” Lestat eventually rejects this, choosing to “put on a show” for a crowd of his family, friends, and victims. The one problem? There’s a deadline on how long his head can stay apart from his body. The blood of Akasha (Sheila Atim) is indeed powerful and magical, but it can only do so much.

So does Lestat die in The Vampire Lestat? How does The Vampire Lestat end? And is the fourth season of Interview With the Vampire going to be The Queen of the Damned?

The Vampire Lestat Ending Explained: Does Lestat Die?

Lestat does not die at the end of The Vampire Lestat. In fact, just before his time runs out, the Talamasca — represented once more by Raglan James (Justin Kirk) — comes to the rescue. They convince Daniel Molloy, as well as Lestat’s guitarist Alex (Seamus Patterson), to give up the head so that Lestat can play his concert and spark the Great Conversion.

Lestat regains consciousness in his tour bus and learns his mother has insisted that he go straight on stage for his adoring crowd of mostly vampires. He is not thrilled about this. In fact, the only thing he can think of is Louis. The two vampires are reunited (and both have scars on their necks from where they were recently stitched back together).

We don’t get to see Lestat put on his show, however. We cut right back to Lestat finishing the narration of the Failures, where he notes that the concert does indeed spark a massive change for the world. It awakens Akasha from her sleep and kicks off an apocalyptic event. When Lestat finally leaves his room to stand on a balcony, we see the wasteland of a utterly obliterated Montreal stretch to the horizon.

Will There Be a Second Season of The Vampire Lestat? Will AMC Make Interview With the Vampire Season 4 The Queen of the Damned?

We don’t know yet if AMC will renew The Vampire Lestat, aka Interview With the Vampire, for another season. However, given how much they’ve invested in spin-offs like The Mayfair Witches and The Talamasca, all signs point to yet.

Because Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire was rebranded The Vampire Lestat for Season 3, it stands to reason that Season 4 will be The Queen of the Damned.

The Queen of the Damned deals with the fallout of Lestat’s concert, including the ruinous return of Akasha, the titular queen.
