‘Wicked: For Good’ Is Now Streaming on Netflix, So Get Ready to Mourn the Wicked

If you didn’t get a chance to see Wicked: For Good in theaters last year, you don’t have to wait another clock tick to watch Part 2 of this Oscar-winning movie musical, because starting today, Wicked: For Good is now streaming on Netflix.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, this is Act 2 of the film adaptation the Tony-winning musical sensation, Wicked, by composer Stephen Schwartz. Cynthia Erivo stars as Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, who, after facing betrayal from Oz in the first movie, has gone off on her own and lives as a fugitive fighting for animal rights. Years pass. Galinda (Ariana Grande) now goes by Glinda the Good, and finds herself at odds with her former BFF from dear old Shiz.

Wicked: For Good didn’t get quite as much love as the 2024 Wicked movie musical. For Broadway fans, that’s old news—we’ve always known the best songs were in Act 1! This time around, there were no Oscar nominations, not even in the technical categories. Still, the movie managed to rake in over $540 million at the worldwide box office—so clearly, audiences still want to watch this witches sing their hearts out.

The fact that Wicked: For Good is streaming on Netflix is a bit of a surprise—we had originally thought the movie would go to streaming on Amazon Prime Video, thanks to the deal between Universal and Amazon that sends Universal movies to Peacock for the first four months of the “Pay 1 window,” then to Amazon Prime Video for the next months of the window, followed by four more months on Peacock. Wicked: For Good did its four months on Peacock, and now it’s coming to Netflix, and not Prime. Maybe the Prime and Universal deal is over.

We’re not sure, but we’re happy for the Ozians with Netflix accounts all the same. Happy streamifying!

Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.
