The mindset propelling Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones in domination on the glass

The Liberty are hard to stop when Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones dominate the glass.

Both enter Wednesday’s home matchup against the Sky among the WNBA’s top 10 total rebounders this season, but continued aggressiveness on the boards has been a talking point between the pair nonetheless.

“J.J. and I kind of, we talked [Sunday] … the thing that we need to do it every single day is double-double,” Stewart said after Monday’s overtime win against the Wings. “Double-double, no question because the rebounds are effort plays and really happy that we were able to control the boards and put pressure on the rim from getting downhill but also second-chance points.”

The chat between the All-Stars seemingly made an impact, as the team grabbed 17 offensive boards — with Stewart, Jones and Marine Fauthoux making a slice of history during the 99-98 win.

The trio each recorded at least 10 rebounds (Stewart had 13), marking just the 10th time in WNBA history that three teammates recorded point-rebound double-doubles in the same game, per Liberty PR.

For Stewart, it was also her first game with at least 10 boards since June 21 — and that sort of aggressiveness was a focus for her and Jones as the team looked to snap a four-game losing streak.

“It was a conversation,” Jones told The Post about the need for double-doubles. “That’s something that I always strive for, but obviously just want to make sure I’m helping her in whatever way that I can and helping the team in whatever way I can.”

Stewart’s game-high 33 points and eight assists certainly helped the cause, as the Liberty now look ahead to a struggling Sky team.

“That’s just what Stewie does,” Jones said. “It’s her playing at a high level and doing all the things that make her a great player.”
