Yankees seeking right-handed bat on top of other pressing needs at trade deadline
July 24, 2026

The Yankees seek a right-handed bat in addition to a catcher and relievers.
Shortstop isn’t a top priority, partly due to faith in prospect George Lombard Jr., a terrific defender. Recent estimates suggest Lombard could be up in about two weeks.
The Giants have received calls on all their available nine-figure veterans — Matt Chapman, Willy Adames and Rafael Devers. But teams are reluctant to take big money considering CBA uncertainty and ownership interest in a cap.
Chapman could fit the Yankees, Phillies or Red Sox. (The Yankees don’t love the $108 million to go, though.)
