Everybody loves a redemption arc, and Laura Loomer’s abrupt reversal on the war in Ukraine is a particularly rewarding one.

In the days, weeks, months and even years following Russia’s unprovoked invasion, Loomer — a popular MAGA influencer and far-right conspiracy theorist — joined a majority of her peers in assailing Ukraine, its leader and its American supporters.

In no uncertain terms, too.

Loomer had described Ukraine as “a country full of Nazi apologists,” cast doubt on the ghastly civilian casualty count it’s suffered and lambasted President Volodymyr Zelensky both a “fake Jew” and a “Jihadi apologist.”

Yet on Thursday, she conducted an amiable interview of Zelensky during her first-ever visit to the war-torn nation.

And by the time she sat down with her ex-punching bag, she’d undergone a laudable change of heart.

“Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is every day for every Ukrainian,” she marveled on Tuesday.

Even more impressively, she had admitted to — and apologized for — amplifying destructive Russian propaganda.

“There are people in Ukraine who have to run to a bomb shelter everyday and some of us had the audacity to say Russia wasn’t wrong because we believed the lie that Ukraine is a country full of Nazi sympathizers,” Loomer lamented.

“I said the worst things about Ukraine and then I traveled here myself in the middle of their war to learn more about Ukraine with my own eyes and I am floored with how many Russian lies I fell for.”

Her conversion story is an especially compelling and consequential one.

First, Loomer is being forthright about the contrast between the basis of her initial armchair attacks on Ukraine’s righteous cause, and the logic behind her U-turn.

From afar, it was easy to lose the plot in a sea of disinformation and bad incentives.

Many on the right had overreacted to the faux Trump-Russia collusion scandal by concluding that Vladimir Putin’s government was a natural US ally that had only been treated as enemy because of a deep-state frame job.

But in truth, Russia had attempted to meddle in the 2016 election — and that’s the least of its sins over the the last two decades.

At every conceivable opportunity, the Kremlin’s KGB agent-turned-dictator has undermined American interests and sown chaos across the globe.

And he capitalized on Russiagate with a influence operation designed to turn his regime into a wedge issue.

Without ever having personally suffered at Putin’s hands, Loomer became preoccupied in a petty, partisan fight that whitewashed his intentions.

But after living as he’s forced the Ukrainians to, even for just a few days, she could no longer deny the autocrat’s monstrous actions.

Second, Loomer has connected the dots between Russia and America’s other two major geopolitical adversaries: Iran and China.

“I am deeply disturbed as an American citizen about how many Americans minds have been warped to support Russia’s third world slop that pushes communism and a multipolar world where Xi, the Ayatollah and Putin are our masters,” she proclaimed.

That’s a key insight.

Moscow, Tehran and Beijing are collaborating to advance each other’s sinister objectives.

That’s why Russia is — as Loomer now points out — arming Iran amid the latter’s ongoing shooting war with Uncle Sam.

And why it formed a “no limits” strategic partnership with Beijing in advance of its February 2022 attack on Ukraine.

Any worthwhile 21st-century American foreign policy will name and counteract this new axis of evil.

Perhaps most important, Loomer’s Road to Kyiv moment comes at a critical juncture.

Congress is poised to consider the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s Sanctioning Russia Act, which would impose a 100% tariff on imports from countries that purchase Russian energy products among other potent measures.

The legislation would hit Putin where it hurts, and reportedly has support both within Trump’s administration and among many Democrats.

Still, there are no sure things in Washington.

Loomer maintains a close relationship with the president and has shaped administration policy before; that she’s now lobbying for Graham’s bill (“We need to whip those votes”) can’t hurt.

It’s time to give Russia hell — and even Laura Loomer thinks so.
