At least two people were killed on Sunday in a shooting at a food festival in Seattle, the authorities said.

At least five others were wounded, including a child approximately two years old, during the shooting near the Seattle Center, the Seattle Fire Department said.

The Seattle Police Department said shots were fired at the center, which was hosting the Bite of Seattle food festival. The center is also home to the Space Needle. Thousands of people were attending the festival, the local news media reported.

The authorities said to avoid the area. No information has been released about a suspect or a potential motive.

Fire crews responded to reports of a shooting near the center just after 6 p.m., the fire department said in a statement. They attempted lifesaving efforts on two patients but both were declared dead at the scene, it said. They also treated five other patients whose injuries ranged from minor to serious.

The victims are being treated at Harborview Medical Center, according to a spokeswoman for the center.
