American Airlines flights grounded nationwide due to IT outage: FAA
July 29, 2026

WASHINGTON —The Federal Aviation Administration late on Tuesday issued a ground stop for American Airlines flights due to an IT outage, according to a notice posted on the agency’s website.
The FAA and American Airlines did not immediately comment on the ground stop issued around 6:30 p.m ET but American said on social media: “Our IT team is working as quickly as possible to get our system back up.”
The notice means flights cannot depart until the issue is resolved. It came as many US East Coast airports are experiencing significant delays and ground stops due to thunderstorms.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
