The US cities where vehicle theft is most rampant have been revealed.

Nationwide vehicle thefts have hit a historic low — down 35% since its peak in 2023 — but the crime continues to wreak havoc in some of the country’s blue metros.

Using stats and data from 2025 from the FBI, National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Highway Loss Data Institute, American Trucks determined that Oakland, CA, is the riskiest city for car owners.

The city has not only lost its football and baseball teams, but 1,459 cars per every 100,000 residents get jacked by thieves, the study determined.

Oakland is run by the notoriously soft-on-crime Democrat Mayor Barbara Lee — who’s city-owned SUV was ironically stolen in February.

“No one in Oakland should have to worry about their car being stolen, whether they’re a resident, a city worker, or the mayor. Public safety is a priority across our entire city,” Lee said at the time.

St. Louis is the second-worst city for auto theft, with 1,172 vehicles per 100,000 people robbed. The Missouri city is by Democratic Mayor Cara Spencer.

Minneapolis has the third-highest rate of car thefts, with 1,141 stolen vehicles per every 100,000 residents.

Woke Mayor Jacob Frey spoke in March about the damning stats showing a 35% surge in car thefts — and squarely place the blame on federal ICE agents. She said the city’s cops were spread to thin “dealing with issues” stoked by the feds’ presence in the city to focus on car thefts and other crime, WCCO radio reported at the time.

Dayton, Ohio, was the fourth most dangerous city for car theft, with 1,118 incidents for every 100,000 residents in the city run by left-leaning Shenise Turner-Sloss. The previous mayor decried the shortage of cops.

Philadelphia — run by Dem Mayor Cherelle Parker — has the fifth-worst car theft dilemma, with 1,015 thefts per every 100,000 residents, the study found. She vowed to target the crime but earlier this week local police said they were investigating a string of 30 stolen Hondas over the past month, NBC reported.

NYC is at an “elevated” risk, with about 181.4 thefts for every 100,000 residents. The Big Apple was ranked 188 out of 281 cities.

Despite the national decline, Washington, DC, Pennsylvania and New York State have experienced the biggest spikes in car thefts since 2019.

DC thefts spiked by 110%, Pennsylvania thefts jumped by 106% and New York thefts increased by 94%, according to American Trucks.

“This isn’t rocket science,” John Lott, a former DOJ advisor and the president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, told The Post.

“If you want to reduce crime, whether it’s murders or you want to reduce car thefts, you have to make it riskier for criminals to go and commit crimes.”
