Mt. Vernon lunacy

Just when you think you have lived long enough to have seen and heard it all, you read that a Mount Vernon deputy police commissioner drove a getaway car for her son’s gang shooting — with the help from her ex-con husband, no less (“Police brass ‘crime’ family,” Aug. 5).

To say it’s getting crazier and crazier out there is the understatement of the year. Has everyone in Mount Vernon gone totally out of their minds?

Sticker shock

Here we are again: warning stickers on cars redux (“ ‘Sticking’ it to cars,” Aug. 5).

Under Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the City Council rightly halted the practice as unnecessary public shaming and property vandalism. Now, Mayor Mamdani has let it resume.

This practice needs to be stopped again. Let’s hope that other failed practices don’t resume under this mayor.

Why Galliano?

The announcement that John Galliano will be the theme of the 2027 Met Gala is appalling, insulting and hurtful (“Back in fashion,” Aug. 3).

Why would anyone celebrate a designer that was canceled because of his antisemitic rant in 2011? If this were any other minority group, there would be an outrage of discrimination. But because the current environment in New York City favors anti-Jewish discrimination and hate, it’s acceptable.

Anna Wintour and our mayor should look long and hard at the damage caused by their gross insensitivity and the unwarranted hate thrust upon Jews in New York.

Pirro’s peril

President Trump once bragged that his new Reflecting Pool liner would “last for at least 50 years” and “you can’t even cut it” with a knife. That was before he falsely accused vandals of using knives or box-cutters to carve a 350-foot gash through this supposedly impervious material (“Trump: Pirro ‘choked,’ ” Aug. 4).

And now that US Attorney Jeanine Pirro has turned on him, it’s likely she will be the next of the women he has turned against, following in the footsteps of Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem and many others.

Fraud-loving Dems

After uncovering over $230 billion in fraudulent funds, Vice President JD Vance’s anti-fraud task force is calling on Congress to codify more anti-fraud protections in upcoming bills because as he doesn’t want a possible future Democratic administration to “undo all the incredible work” his task force is doing (“JD pushes new anti-fraud laws,” Aug. 6).

Who would vote for a party that thwarts our government’s efforts to stop taxpayer money from being wasted and used for nefarious purposes? Shouldn’t every politician and government official be anti-fraud?

Stop stalling, Don

President Trump is doing an excellent job, but enough is enough (“New 60-day strait pact ‘nearly reached,’ ” Aug. 6).

He has given Iran’s leaders chances over and over again. Iran doesn’t care about us or Israel, our biggest ally in the Middle East. Trump is starting to look weak. Finish the job and get it over with. How many chances do you want to give them? Tehran is stalling in every aspect — it’s time to flex our power once and for all.
