The Liberty’s dominant 111-71 win against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday was a potential preview of a first-round playoff series.

Kind of.

With the Aces playing their second game in less than 24 hours, Las Vegas’ star trio of A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young took a rest day and watched from the sidelines in street clothes.

The Liberty’s Big 3 featuring Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones spent the entire fourth quarter on the bench as New York had no problems taking care of business without the Aces’ three-headed monster.

They cruised to their fourth-largest win in franchise history to take the season series 2-1.

New York also stomped the Aces June 30 to capture its second Commissioner’s Cup championship.

The Liberty led by as many as 40 points, their largest lead in any game this season.

The last time New York led by 33 points was in its season-opening win against the Connecticut Sun May 8.

New York took care of business early, allowing for its starters to play fewer minutes than usual.

Marine Johannes, whom coach Chris DeMarco recently dubbed “one of the best shooters I’ve ever seen in my life,” drilled a transition 3 at the end of the third quarter that put New York up 23 points.

The Aces (22-11) currently sit in third place, while New York (20-13) jumped into seventh place, leaping past the Wings, with Sunday’s win.

If the season ended Sunday afternoon, Las Vegas would play the Mystics in the first round of the playoffs, while the Liberty would face the Valkyries.

But a possible playoff series between the Aces and Liberty is far from out of the question.

The Liberty have been on the rise as of late, winning seven of their past eight games.

Sunday was only the second time since July 3 that New York had beaten an opponent by double-digits.

Also, if they were to meet, it would look nothing like Sunday’s game, which was all about the reserves.

The Aces’ bench accounted for 52 points, while the Liberty’s reserves contributed 58 points.

Meanwhile, the Liberty were paced by Johannès, who finished with a career-high 27 points.

Marine Fauthoux, fresh off a signing her first multiyear WNBA contract after the team waived Betnijah Laney-Hamilton Friday, finished with a team-high nine assists off the bench.

The Liberty also hope to get Leonie Fiebich (left foot injury) and Satou Sabally (concussion protocol) back before the playoffs.
