A new season of Apple TV‘s Emmy-winning comedy Ted Lasso means new cast members, characters, and even new coaches.

While fan-favorites like Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley (Juno Temple), Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), Beard (Brendan Hunt), and Higgins (Jeremy Swift) will be back for Season 4, with Ted (Jason Sudeikis) returning to Richmond to coach the new women’s team, fans have a number of new players to meet as well.

Talented actors including Abbie Hern, Faye Marsay, Jude Mack, and more will be playing Lady Greyhounds team members. And coaching them alongside Ted is Coach Alice Chilton, played by the great Tanya Reynolds.

As Decider noted in our Ted Lasso Season 4 review, Alice Chilton is a profoundly passionate, qualified assistant coach who’s understandably skeptical of the chipper mustachioed man hired to do her dream job, and Rebecca for hiring him. She’s a socially awkward, strong-willed woman who struggles to keep her guard up as Ted tries to win her over with cheesy jokes and earnest charm.

Her straight-faced, no-nonsense approach to the game serves as a unique source of humor, helping anchor the team amidst Ted and Beard’s silly shenanigans. In early episodes, she and Ted strike a dynamic similar to the one he shared with Roy Kent at the start of the series. And like Roy, we get hints that Alice is concealing greater emotional depth and personal traumas beneath the surface.

“Alice is incredibly passionate about football and was a fantastic player until she suffered several ACL injuries and could no longer play. She turned all of her attention to coaching, and being a good coach is her main objective. So she’s definitely prickly with Ted as the season opens,” Reynolds explained in Ted Lasso Season 4 production notes. “She wants people to succeed, but she doesn’t always balance that with warmth — so she ends up performing a version of herself she thinks others expect… Really, she just wants to be liked and respected.”

Coach Alice Chilton in Ted Lasso is played by Tanya Reynolds, a 34-year-old English actor and Oxford School of Drama alum with more than 30 film and TV credits on IMDb. Since her first credit in 2014, Reynolds has starred in popular projects including Emma, The Other Bennet Sister, The Decameron, Breeders, For Love or Money, Outlander, Sex Education, and more. She’s also known for her stage work and has starred in numerous productions from 1536 and The Seagull to White Rabbit, Red Rabbit, and A Mirror.
