Inside the swanky Beverly Hills screening of ‘Spa Weekend’ that included Glamsquad makeovers and $500 Mahjong sets

Indie darling Black Bear Pictures took over the swanky London West Hollywood hotel penthouse on Tuesday for an evening of pampering before a special screening of its new comedy, “Spa Weekend,” which hits theaters on Aug. 21.

The sprawling indoor-outdoor suite featured a dozen activities meant to help guests unwind, including makeovers from Glamsquad, custom engraved gua shas by ResortPass, aura photography, mahjong lessons by Oh My Mahjong, a collaborative art piece from Painting with a Twist, a BLSSD the Label keychain charm bar and Jamba Juice smoothies.

Guests were treated to on-site mahjong lessons.
An on-site Glamsquad was giving makeovers atop the London West Hollywood hotel penthouse.

But if all that wasn’t enough to help attendees get in the mood, there was an open bar, too, with cocktails like the “Somebody Sage Me” greyhound and a “Ride or Die” margarita.

Scott Moore, who wrote and directed “Spa Weekend” alongside his “Hangover” and “Bad Moms” collaborator Jon Lucas, was overheard telling an attendee before the screening started: “You’ve got to make sure you get one of those mahjong sets — they’re like $500 bucks!”

The movie centers on four friends whose spa retreat goes off the rails.

After the crowd took their seats, Lucas cracked a few jokes. “The London West Hollywood at Beverly Hills. It’s a hotel that’s so nice, it has three cities in the name. I barely got here!”

Moore added: “Jon and I have been working together for 27 years, and we’ve directed five feature films. I have to say, this filmmaking experience tops the list,” he said. “The thing that really made it was the cast. These guys were a dream to work with. They’re funny and professional. They make us look good, and I would do a dozen movies with these guys.”

Cue the all-star cast! Isla Fisher, Leslie Mann, Anna Faris and Adam Demos took the stage to snap some photos ahead of the film, which follows four friends (Michelle Buteau rounds out the foursome) who escape their busy lives for a spa weekend that goes off the rails.

After the rowdy screening, attendees were handed swag bags packed with Hand & Stone Massage slippers and eye masks, Avon products, Harry & David Moose Munch, Cheryl’s cookies, a bottle of Yes Way Rosé and some official “Spa Weekend” eye patches reading “Relaxed as F–k.” Phew!
