Fiery California crash kills girl, 8, leaves 5 others injured

An explosive crash in Perris Saturday left an 8-year-old dead and five others injured, authorities said.

The crash happened near Ramona Expressway and East Rider Street around 5:40 p.m., where Cal Fire and Riverside County sheriff’s deputies found two wrecked vehicles, one engulfed in flames.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Bureau identified the girl killed as Camila Leon of Perris.

Video from the scene shows a white Lexus and another vehicle badly charred, with debris strewn across the roadway as firefighters and deputies worked behind yellow caution tape.

Six people were hospitalized, including Camila, who later died. Another young passenger remained in critical condition Monday, while an adult was hospitalized in stable condition. The others were treated and released.

The cause of the crash isn’t clear. There weren’t any arrests made and the investigation is ongoing, according to the Riverside County Sheriff.

The sheriff’s Perris station Traffic Reconstruction Team has taken up the investigation.
