In-N-Out plans new SoCal location with ‘Double-Double’ drive-thru lanes
In-N-Out Burger is plotting another expansion in Southern California, but don’t line up just yet.
The beloved fast-food giant submitted plans to construct a brand new restaurant on the southwest corner of Riverside Drive and Archibald Avenue in Ontario, according to city records.
Filed in April, the proposal would involve tearing down an existing 18,175-square-foot commercial building formerly occupied by Rite Aid to make way for a new 3,887-square-foot outpost.
The blueprint features a drive-thru with two lanes — a “Double-Double,” if you will — designed to handle the chain’s notoriously long lines.
The project still requires approval from the city of Ontario’s Planning Commission — meaning that at the moment, it is just a proposal with no timeline or potential opening date.
Still, word of the possibly new burger joint has already fired up residents after local real estate agent Louis Ramos shared the plans on Instagram, with commenters sharply divided.
“This will be a nightmare for an already busy intersection,” one person warned.
“Traffic will be so bad,” another wrote. “I love in n out but the city won’t do anything about how much traffic this will cause.” One critic dubbed it the “stupidest proposal yet,” arguing that there is already another In-N-Out nearby.
Others were ready to welcome the chain with open arms.
“I would not be against this at all,” one commenter wrote, acknowledging traffic “will be a little busier” but arguing that congestion is already an issue the city should address.
“It’s needed,” another declared, saying the In-N-Out would provide another option near the area’s sports facilities and could help draw customers to neighboring businesses.
In the chain’s home state of California, there are plenty of other new stores in the works. The Animal Style joint will anchor part of “The Canopy,” a new 90,000-square-foot retail and dining destination that is currently under construction inside the Great Park in Irvine, as well as one in Commerce and in Northern California in Stockton.
An abandoned Southern California mall is getting a dramatic revival in east Bakersfield, and is also set to open in 2027 with an In-N-Out.
They are also adding another Arizona location at 33375 N. Gary Road in San Tan Valley, a Utah spot at 4643 S. Pioneer Road in St. George and a restaurant in Idaho at 1965 Blue Lakes Blvd. North in Twin Falls.
