A San Jose police officer was shot and hospitalized Tuesday evening as a massive law enforcement response unfolded in the area.

The shooting happened near Lick Avenue and Goodyear Street. The injured officer was rushed to a hospital for treatment, according to NBC.

A heavy police presence was also reported near Almaden Avenue and Floyd Street, with San Jose police and Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies seen with guns drawn.

University police were also potentially involved in the response.

Witnesses told NBC they saw an individual down on the ground and raised concerns that a suspect may have barricaded themselves nearby. Police have not confirmed those reports.
