R.I.P. Tim Curry: How To Watch The Late Actor’s Terrifying Pennywise Portrayal in ‘It’ (1990)

The exceptionally talented Tim Curry has tragically died.

TMZ reports that after suffering from serious health issues for more than a decade, including a stroke in 2012, the actor passed away on Tuesday night (Aug. 25) at 80 years old. Though the first role that may come to ming when you think of Curry is Dr. Frank-N-Furter in 1975’s The Rocky Horror Picture Show, he is also known for delivering a scene-stealing and horrifying performance as Pennywise the Clown in Stephen King‘s It.

The 1990 adaptation of King’s 1986 horror novel originally aired as a two-part miniseries on ABC, in which Curry’s Pennywise terrorized the small town of Derry, Maine. A group of kids called the Loser’s Club—comprised of Bill Denbrough (Jonathan Brandis), Ben Hanscom (Brandon Crane), Mike Hanlon (Marlon Taylor), Stanley Uris (Ben Heller), Richie Tozier (Seth Green), Eddie Kaspbarak (Adam Faraizl), and Beverly Marsh (Emily Perkins)—team up to take down Pennywise after Bill’s younger brother Georgie (Tony Dakota) goes missing.

Pennywise still manages to haunt the group as adults, played by Richard Thomas, John Ritter, Tim Reid, Richard Masur, Harry Anderson, Dennis Christopher, and Annette O’Toole, respectively. Though It has since been adapted into a two-part film and a prequel series, with Bill Skarsgård playing Pennywise in each title, Curry’y performance still remains legendary.
