From Boston, to Paris, to Ireland, and Spain, Chelsea Martin (Lacey Chabert) has had quite the quest to find love in Paris is Always a Good Idea. And after six episodes, she has determined if any of her “what-ifs” are the one for her.

Over the course of the Hallmark+ series based on Jenn McKinlay’s 2020 novel of the same name, Chelsea pays homage to her late mother Christine (Anna Wilson-Jones) by revisiting the three men she fall for during her time abroad after grad school: Colin (Stephen Hagan), Sebastian (Julien Marlon Samani), and Marcos (Alejandro Albarracín). Little does she know that she didn’t need to cross an ocean for the man she catches feelings for, her colleague and rival at the American Cancer Coalition (ACC), Jason Knightly (Scott Michael Foster).

Chelsea’s mother Christine and father Glenn (Henry Czerny) met in Paris, and when her mother passed away from pancreatic cancer a decade prior, Chelsea, her sister Annabelle (Rebecca Hanssen), and Glenn went to the City of Love to do her mother’s itinerary and leave her behind. However, Chelsea fell victim to her grief and left her father and sister behind to do it themselves. It is not until 10 years later that she learns that they never followed through with it. When Chelsea must return to Paris for a work trip with the ACC, Annabelle and Glenn seize the moment and decide there is no time like the present to fulfill the itinerary.

When Chelsea also finds Knightly has been sent to Paris with her to seal the deal with prospective donor Sophie Arnaud (Camille Japy), she is initially frustrated. But after spending more time together and coming to understand that neither of her first two “what-ifs,” Colin and Sebastian, are the ones for her, she realizes that she is falling for Knightly, and that the feelings are mutual. However, Chelsea’s feelings for Knightly initially prevent her from reconnecting with Marcos.

After convincing Chelsea—or as he adorably calls her, “Martin”—to reconnect with Marcos despite their feelings for each other, Knightly soon has regrets, specifically when he learns that Chelsea’s Marcos is billionaire Marcos Vera.

Like fans hopefully will be once they reach the end of Episode 6, “Knightly Revisited,” Chabert and Foster were both pleased with how their characters’ stories ended, as they told DECIDER during a press junket ahead of the series’ premiere.

“I love it,” Chabert shared.

Foster said he is “very happy” about his and Chabert’s storylines, proceeding to credit for doing “such a good job crafting this story” based on McKinlay’s book.

“It’s a little interesting for us because we shot this completely out of order, right? And typically in a series, you do episode one, then two, then three, then four. We were doing all of them at once,” he explained. “And so it was a challenge to keep it all straight, but the writers did their job really well and they made the storyline really—I mean, obviously the book is great, but the writers did such a good job adapting it that it made our jobs easier to work with such great material.”

Chabert added, “100%. Yeah, it’s beautifully written.”

Paris is Always a Good Idea Ending Explained: Who Does Chelsea End Up With?

It is not until Episode 4 that we learn who Chelsea is speaking to on the phone at the mysterious wedding being held at Marcos’ stunning Spain property: Knightly. While the two admit their feelings to each other while together in Paris, Knightly ultimately convinces Chelsea to reconnect with the last of her “what-ifs,” Marcos. Little does he know, however, that Marcos is the Marcos Vera, a billionaire who resides in a castle on a vineyard outside of Bilbao, Spain.

In Episode 5, “Marcos Revisited,” viewers become privy to how intent Marcos was on pursuing Chelsea, despite her delivering the low blow that he’s “not [her] type.” While he “confidently” pushes back that he’s “everyone’s type,” Marcos has to work a little harder to prove that he is worthy of Chelsea’s heart, including becoming less materialistic and showing that he can be more philanthropic than she might think (he auctioned off his sleek sports car to an environmental initiative).

Marcos even convinces Chelsea to stay in Spain with him as opposed to setting off for Germany as she had planned. But Chelsea and Marcos’ relationship falls victim to poor timing, as she receives a call from her father urging her to come home because her mother is sick. Instead of telling Marcos what happened, she chooses to leave “without any explanation,” and only reunites with him upon Knightly’s behest. Though it appears that Marcos may still have feelings for Chelsea, Chelsea is upfront about her feelings for Knightly. Marcos, however, offers Chelsea a position in Spain that she might not be able to refuse, as the head of a foundation with $48 billion of Marcos’ own money to give away to a charity she sees fit.

Meanwhile Knightly is fretting over whether he made the right choice to push Chelsea to see her journey through. He also is navigating the financial hurdle of paying for his younger sister’s soccer club. Though his concerns over whether Chelsea is still interested in him are quelled after a FaceTime call, Knightly confides in her about the costly soccer club, which leads to their relationship’s (temporary) demise.

Chelsea chooses Boston and Knightly over Spain and Marcos, but her choice is put on pause after she returns to the ACC office, where her boss Aiden (Ramon Tikaram) reveals to her that he is planning on letting Knightly go due to financial restrictions. When she learns that it’s either her or Knightly, Chelsea decides to resign, but refuses to let Knightly know why she is leaving out of fear that he will try to take the fall for her. However, Knightly mistakes this choice as Chelsea choosing Marcos and Spain over him and Boston. Meanwhile, Glenn proposes to Sherrie (Barbara Niven), with both Chelsea and Annabelle’s blessing and, as Sherrie requested, a ring with a pink diamond. When Sherrie asks the two girls to be her bridesmaids, Chelsea offers up a big hint as to exactly whose wedding she’s calling Knightly from throughout the series thus far.

“I mean, only if our dresses can match that ring,” she teases.

Fast forward, and we see Annabelle rush Chelsea off the phone. The two are dressed in pink bridesmaid dresses, and head off to take pictures (photographed by Sebastian, of course) with Sherrie, the bride-to-be.

Nonetheless, Episode 6, “Knightly Revisited,” is where we

Through a flashback of Chelsea with her father and her late mother, we learn that her parents had been keeping her mother’s illness a secret from her for months in order to insure that she continued to live her life to the fullest. In the present, we see that Chelsea is constantly reminded of Knightly in Spain, and desperately wants to reach out to him. When Annabelle sees Knightly with another woman at his younger sister’s soccer game, she tries to let Chelsea down easily. However, little does she know that the woman is not a love interest, but his other sister, who is just as invested in his and Chelsea’s love story as his younger sister.

After some convincing from Marcos, Chelsea opts to reach out to Knightly, but decides to do so through what she describes as “the work equivalent of texting my ex.” She hopes to set up a meeting with Knightly in Spain to coordinate a donation from her and Marcos’ new foundation to the ACC. But when Aiden shows up in his place, she feels defeated. Nonetheless, she’s got a wedding to help organize! Her family arrives, and Annabelle catches Marcos’ attention. But Annabelle is still navigating her breakup from Rhyland, who she reveals to Chelsea, plays for Real Madrid. Fortunately, the ladies have Sherrie’s bachelorette party to take their minds off things.. until Annabelle signs Chelsea up for karaoke, where she sings a rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone.”

When Chelsea catches her father watching his and her mother’s wedding video, she realizes that her parents promised to keep each other’s secrets, and that finding someone who she could feel safe spilling all of her secrets too was essential in her search for love. She realizes that person for her is Knightly—the man she had been lying to for a year about why she left—and with the help of Annabelle, decides to reach out. But of course, Chelsea also pushes Annabelle to contact Rhyland, who she is clearly not over.

As Chelsea prepares to send the 14-minute-45-second-long voice memo she has prepared for Knightly, which she so fittingly names “For the auditory guy,” the unthinkable happens. After clicking send, she hears the ring of an unmistakable text tone, and before she knows it, her knight(ly) in shining armor is right there in front of her in Spain.

Chelsea teases her ultimate pitch of them being together, which Knightly enthusiastically accepts, as they share a swoon-worthy kiss. Knightly admits his own regrets of how he handled things; specifically, how he opted not to go to Spain for the pitch meeting Chelsea had scheduled. As Chelsea and Knightly get to celebrate their reunion and Glenn and Sherrie’s new marriage, Sherrie takes a moment to honor Christine, thanking her for making Glenn the man he is today, and for raising two daughters like Chelsea and Annabelle.

While everyone is in high spirits, Annabelle still awaits a reply from Rhyland. However, she is whisked away by Marcos, who steals her for a dance. Of course, that is when a call from Rhyland Reece appears on Annabelle’s phone, left to be unanswered.

Will There Be A Season 2 of Paris is Always a Good Idea?

Paris is Always a Good Idea was billed by Hallmark+ as a limited series, meaning it is possible that the series ends with its six episodes. However, the call from Rhyland may have fans feeling like there could be more story to tell.

Chabert told DECIDER, “I mean, I never say never to anything when it comes to the creative process because
look, it is meant to be a limited series. We tell the complete story of the book, but never say,
never, I think.”

Foster acknowledged the “little bit of a hint in the last episode” that could allude to a future season.

“I won’t say with who, but there’s a little bit of a string that you could pull if you wanted it to keep going,” he teased at thetime.

Chabert added, “If the audience wanted to see more, I think there’s room to see more.”

Meanwhile Hanssen said she thinks “that there is a potential to” continue the story and that “there’s definitely different storylines to be explored, but ultimately [she] think[s] that the main story wraps up so beautifully at the end of this.”

“It’s very pleasing,” she noted.
