San Francisco 49er’s owner Jed York‘s trailer park prostitution bust has him directly in the crosshairs of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“It’s being reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” Goodell said at the NFL owners meeting in Atlanta Wednesday. “We’ll do that and when there’s something to be reported we’ll talk.” 

The NFL has not announced that York violated the policy or that he will be disciplined.

Instead, the league is determining whether his conduct warrants punishment under rules that apply to everyone in the NFL, including players, coaches and team owners. 

The policy gives the league broad authority to investigate off-field conduct and impose discipline even when criminal charges are reduced or otherwise resolved.

The development came as newly released police body-camera footage, obtained by the California Post, showed the moment officers approached York’s SUV during Sunday’s sting at a mobile home park in East Palestine, Ohio.

In the footage, officers ask York what he is doing.

“Just driving,” York responds.

An officer then asks whether he is meeting anyone. York says no before officers place him in handcuffs and lead him to a police cruiser. 

York, 45, had responded to an online advertisement posted by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force and agreed to pay $160 for sex with a woman he believed was a prostitute, according to police and court records.

He was arrested Sunday and initially faced a prostitution charge. 

He pleaded no contest Monday to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools.

He was sentenced to one day in jail, credited with time served, and fined $1,150. The $160 seized during the arrest was forfeited to the human trafficking task force, and York also completed an online educational course. 

York has spent much of the summer in Ohio, where he grew up near Youngstown. He was notably absent from Wednesday’s owners meetings in Atlanta, with 49ers CEO Al Guido representing the team. 

Court records show York filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle Belluomini York, in May. 

The NFL has previously punished team owners under its personal conduct policy.

Former Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay, for example, was suspended for six games and fined $500,000 in 2014 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The NFL said at the time that Irsay had violated the personal conduct policy. 

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, meanwhile, was arrested in Florida in 2019 in a prostitution-related case but was not disciplined by the NFL.

Prosecutors ultimately dropped the charges after a court ruled that police had violated the constitutional rights of Kraft and other customers by secretly recording inside massage rooms.
