Alphonso Smith Jr. appeared to be in a very different place in the days before his reported suicide on Wednesday.

The ex-NFLer posted a video to social media of him knocking on a door in search of an unnamed individual he refers to as “No. 3” with an enticing offer.

“Just trying to see if No. 3 and his family want breakfast — whatever they want, they getting it!” Smith tells the camera before shouting into the door, “I’m looking for No. 3 and his family, I’m gonna buy y’all breakfast, whatever y’all want today! … We gonna feed ’em.”

Just days later, TMZ reported the former Wake Forest standout and Denver Broncos draft pick died at the age of 40 by suicide, hours after posting a disturbing message.

In the Wednesday missive, the former cornerback wrote that he had a “DEMON” in him, referred to himself as a “coward,” and referenced abuse he suffered as a child.

Smith starred on the field with Wake Forest, racking up two All-ACC First Team nods, an All-American Second Team pick and adding a consensus All-American season in 2008.

His success made his a second-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, beginning a four-year career that saw him suit up for the Broncos and Lions, posting eight interceptions and 87 tackles over 42 career games.

Smith last played in the NFL in 2012, returning to his hometown of Pahokee, Fla., where he briefly coached at Pahkoee High School before being removed over allegations of inappropriate conduct.

According to the Denver Post, Smith accrued 19 incident reports from 1999-2025 in Palm Beach, including an allegation of domestic battery against this then-girlfriend in 2016.
