Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson’s constant, somewhat mundane social media posting has become the punchline of plenty jokes in recent years.

However, it’s what Magic didn’t post on social media about that’s now raising alarm bells.

Pulitzer-winning journalist Pablo Torre is fresh off a huge victory when his investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers and Kawhi Leonard came to a bombshell conclusion earlier this week.

Now Torre is turning his attention to the situation surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers and owner Mark Walter, who has been accused of potentially committing fraud through his insurance companies. One of these is EquiTrust Life Insurance Company, which Magic Johnson bought from Walter in 2014, thus making him a billionaire.

At the same time, EquiTrust was loaning $350 million to Mark Walter’s media company, according to Torre. This has piqued Torre’s interest, which he spoke about during an episode of “Pablo Torre Finds Out” that aired on Friday.

“You’d think, given the scale of this transaction… You’d think that Magic Johnson might celebrate this transaction — the transaction that made him a billionaire — but despite the fact that tweets about almost every single thing in his life, the sale of EquiTrust was not mentioned by @magicjohnson once,” Sam Koppelman (Torre’s guest) said.

He is referring to Equitrust being sold to Amistad Financial in November of 2025. Amistad was founded and is managed by Eric Holoman, Johnson’s longtime business partner and the former president of Magic Johnson Enterprises. Holoman had been Equitrust’s President and Chief Executive Officer for years but took on the role of “managing founder” of Amistad after this sale.

“Which is conspicuous, given how often [Johnson] tweeted about Equitrust and Holoman previously, one might say,” Torre added.

“Conspicuous, indeed,” Koppelman echoed.

In other words, the fact that Magic didn’t post about this sale last November is seen as a red flag for Torre, given how much he posts about everything else.

Torre said he has reached out to Johnson’s team and has received no response.
