One of the heroes who jumped in to duct-tape an unruly airline passenger was identified as a New Jersey gun range owner — who gave the nutbag a blunt wakeup call during the racist and homophobic debacle.

Richard O’Lenick, 53, of the Gun for Hire shop in Woodland Park, was traveling aboard American Airlines Flight 618 from Dallas to Newark on Thursday night when Arthur Layne Lundeen, 67, went on his violent meltdown.

“I don’t love to fly, and he just looks at me and goes, ‘We’re all going to die. This plane is going to crash,’” O’Lenick told The Daily Voice. “And I said, ‘You’re going to meet a couple of new friends when we land.’”

O’Lenick was traveling with one of his employees, Juan Meija, a retired cop, as they headed back from a gun expo in Reno, Nevada.

During the flight, Lundeen allegedly began flinging racist and homophobic slurs at a black flight attendant, with the man accused of then attacking other passengers during the meltdown.

Once Lundeen turned violent, Meija and O’Lenick rushed in to protect the other passengers and hold the suspect down as flight attendants ran to grab tape and zip ties to hold him down.

“I knew we were going to be doing this together, it wasn’t a thought,” O’Lenick said of the moment the two men rushed into action.

“I’ve got his back and he’s got mine,” he added. “It went the way it did because we have a good relationship and we understood each other and neither of us were going to let the other down.”

The gun range owner said Lundeen was fighting them through the entire ordeal, even going as far as biting Mejia, which led them to tape his head to the seat.

“It was a pretty volatile situation for a while,” O’Lenick said. “Safety was definitely a concern, and not knowing where it was going and what the intent was.”

Lundeen even tried to scare O’Lenick when their eyes met after they successfully restrained him.

Once the plane landed, Maryland Transportation Police took custody of Lundeen, who was charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct, court records show.

Lundeen was also fired from the Arizona realty company he worked at after the company, Long Realty, learned about his mid-air meltdown.
