The list of original Ted Lasso stars who’ve reprised their roles in Season 4 of Apple TV’s Emmy-winning comedy continues to grow. And the latest guest star is one of fans’ most highly anticipated returns!

Shortly after Trent Crimm (James Lance) and Dr. Sharon Fieldstone (Sarah Niles) made surprise appearances in Episode 4, the synopsis for Episode 6 promised that Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Roy (Brett Goldstein), and Keeley (Juno Temple) would “ring [the New Year] in with an old friend.” Naturally, fans have been buzzing about which former cast member would crash New Year’s Eve. And while you may have guessed who would appear, there’s no way you guessed how…

Spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 6 ahead.

Ted Lasso Season 4, Episode 6, “Don’t Jump Around Much Anymore,” shows the women’s team heading to a party thrown by Zelda Southport (Tracey Ullman) while Ted (Jason Sudeikis) spends the night at home with Michelle (Andrea Anders) and Henry (Grant Feeley). As for Rebecca and Keeley, they head to a big vodka launch party where they run into Roy. Why?! “I’m not here for the vodka,” Roy confirmed. “I’m here to watch a man make an absolute tit of himself.”

To celebrate the new apple-flavored vodka, the face of the alcohol brand is there to put on an Adam and Eve-themed show for guests. When the music starts, the Ted Lasso trio looks to the stage where a video reveals graphic designs of a man and woman, nearly nude. The man? A platinum blond Jamie Tartt, which means that, at long last, Phil Dunster made his triumphant Ted Lasso return! In the spirit of surprise, we intentionally buried the lede by waiting to reveal that the vodka brand is called Apple Tartt Vodka.

Once the revealing animation of Jamie flashes on a large screen beside the stage (and makes everyone question the side of his manhood), a group of dancers takes the stage, music blares, and Jamie’s pals look on with a range of emotions plastered on their faces. (Rebecca, horror. Keeley, intrigue. Roy, pure bliss.)

“First, God created Adam. And then he thought, ‘You need to get laid, son.’ So he asked Adam, ‘Can I have one of your ribs?’ And Adam said, ‘Of course, mate. You’re God. Knock yourself out.’ And God took that rib and made VODKA,” Jamie explains to guests, appearing on stage wearing nothing but beige briefs and a strategically placed leaf.

As the four old friends catch up over green vodka Tarttinis, Jamie explains that Barcelona is great (lots of “tapas and napas”), but he misses his Richmond boys. Seeing Jamie and Roy — one of the show’s most beloved friendships and dynamic duos — share the screen and rib each other again just feels right. Though we never expected to see Dunster and Goldstein excitedly tear up the dance floor together House of Pain’s “Jump Around” — before Roy jumped around so hard he exploded his knee, that is!

Rather than stay at his launch party, Jamie swoops in to save his “brother” by carrying him out screaming, “I’m saving Private Roy!” While Roy is high as a kite on meds, being cared for by his knee doctor/girlfriend Erin (Laura Haddock), Jamie reconnects with Rebecca in the hospital waiting room. She opens up about her break with Matthijs (Matteo van der Grijn) — admitting she self-sabotaged — and after sharing a self-centered anecdote and a Voltaire quote, Jamie actually helps her feel better. With midnight approaching, the two pals are about to go in for a kiss when Matthijs surprises Rebecca. So naturally, the couple brings in the New Year with a kiss…while being embraced by Jamie!

Back when Ted Lasso Season 4 was filming and a platinum-blonde Dunster was spotted on set, he claimed he was only there to visit his wife, Ellie Heydon, who directed Episode 4 and Episode 5. While we agree it’s not ideal or necessary to have every member of the AFC Richmond men’s team permanently back on the show, pulling attention and screen time away from the women’s team, it’s undoubtedly heartwarming to see characters who still exist in this shared universe return home.

Though it’s been three years and at least one hair dye job, Dunster hasn’t missed a beat as Jamie Tartt. He’s as magnetic as ever, his comedic timing is spot-on, his chemistry with the cast is effortless, and to put it plainly, WE MISSED HIM!

While it may be a while before Jamie rolls into Richmond again, here’s hoping we haven’t seen the last of him in Ted Lasso‘s new chapter. And since he successfully surprised viewers, here’s hoping some other OG stars could pop up in Ted Lasso Season 4’s final four episodes!
