Yankees meet the moment in special game that meant more than baseball

This wasn’t just another game on the 162-game slate; no, sir. So of course, the Yankees appropriately planned a big ceremony to commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

What they couldn’t plan or predict was for Cody Bellinger, the only Yankee who is the son of a 2001 Yankee and also the only Yankees who’s the son of a firefighter, providing the big hit in a Yankees win.

“Very cool,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Great at-bat there. I think it was probably ball four. But that’s the beauty of Belly.”

Bellinger is a beauty all right. He’s a former MVP who’s remade himself into a star again after injuries derailed his career.
