Inside Judge Judy’s grand exit bash after decades of on-screen work

Judge Judy parties before quitting on-screen TV work

Judge Judy gave a party a few nights ago. If you were invited, it looked to me like almost 100 bodies. If you weren’t invited, I don’t know anything about any party.

Started 6:30. Those needing Serutan shots left 10:30ish. Younger folks are probably still there. About bedtime-ish Judy herself disappeared. Being No. 1 on TV for 20 years with happy viewers and sometimes unhappy litigants, off came the extravagant floor-length silver gown, on went pajamas.

Putin had less security. One crew handled cars. Assistants with guest lists patrolled the outside. Larry Scott — who does parties when bank accounts exceed Elon’s —did the décor, food and surprises. Judy had imported a singer. A TV, larger than for an observatory, showed her lawyer son Adam Levy’s new CBS-TV show “Adam’s Law,” which began Monday.

Her husband, former New York Judge Jerry Sheindlin, and I sat together on a couch. Then another high-level jurist delivered a specially purchased gift for me. A glass vase which bore a funny but very unjudgelike saying on it.

Forget prisoners. Think what’s happening to our judicial system.

Seasonal retreat to civilization

Season’s over. Hell hath no fury like a rainy summer.

Cheapos who double/triple up for East End freebies gone. Done. Vanished. Disappeared are freebie invites to such special events as a hospital fund-raiser for some yutz hustling his handmade, beaded crapola bracelets — finished. Over. Kaput. Back to his share hovel in Laurelton. Even their rented dogs that dressed up a photo — gone. Peeing on your now disappeared last invitation.

Hey, try hitting Europe . . .

Travel check

European Union entry process for travelers is creating confusion and frustration. Checking 30 countries causes bottlenecks for Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Switzerland. Passport scans, fingerprints, entry/exit photos, need arrival four hours early. Big plan was to simplify. Simple cost: 20 euros. Now it’s delayed again.

ESTA, Electronic System for Travel Authorization, our system, is $40 and gives foreigners the paperwork to enter the land where Harry and me-me-me-Meghan once resided. Usually confirmed within hours. Israel, Turkey, Australia have similar systems.

In 2018, European Union announced it would introduce something identical called ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System). Now, eight years later, what ETIAS actually stands for is chaos.

Years ago in Frankfurt, four fingers of my right hand were placed on different screens. The screen invited me to proceed to an immigration clerk. I stood in line 45 minutes. Next, again with the four fingers of my right hand. It then had me look at a camera and be photographed. I was told to remove my glasses and look at a camera. Finally, my passport was returned. I had entered Europe.

Identical process was in Milan, Paris, Barcelona. Said was you need only do this once, and then forever in and out of Europe’s OK. Yeah, right. To leave, it’s the rigamarole again. I was collected from my hotel three hours before my flight — it took only 15 minutes to get to the airport.

In the immortal words of Shakespeare: Forget it.

Geoffrey Weill, who owns and opened and created and runs his own NYC travel agency, offered a warning on this mess.
