Taylor Townsend has pulled out of the Guadalajara Open for emergency surgery following the biggest moment of her career.

The beloved American tennis star shared the update through two Instagram stories on Wednesday night. No specific details around the surgery have been released.

“Welp.. this s-t definitely wasn’t on my bingo card..😭” she wrote. “Through trails and tribulations..still I rise 🐦‍🔥 I’ll update yall soon❤️”

On Thursday morning, Townsend also posted a picture of her laying in a hospital bed.

The 30-year-old, alongside her doubles partner Kateřina Siniaková, just completed a career Grand Slam as a team last week in defeating Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery in the US Open women’s doubles final 5–7, 6–0, 6–2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The top-seeded pair has now won all four Grand Slam titles, adding to their victories at Wimbledon in 2024, Australia in 2025 and this year at Roland Garros in June.

Townsend and Siniaková got their revenge in Queens this year after falling in the 2025 final to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. Townsend notably brought two Honey Deuce drinks to the press conference following the win.

Townsend also released a statement to the WTA 500 hard court tournament, where she won a match on Monday.

“Hi everybody, on the heels of achieving my first career grand slam at the US Open, I was so excited to play in front of all of you in Guadalajara. Because of emergency surgery, I am forced to withdraw from the GDL Open, and it breaks my heart.

“But, I’m looking forward to coming back here next year to see all of you, the greatest tennis fans. Viva Mexico!!!”

It’s unclear if Townsend received the surgery in Guadalajara or traveled back to the U.S.

On Monday, she defeated German player Tatjana Maria in three sets 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Townsend is currently ranked as No. 2 doubles player in the world while Siniakova holds the top spot.

She also competed in the women’s singles draw at the US Open, exiting in the fourth round in a loss to top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka.
