Your own private island in Maine can be yours for a bargain $450K

A private island in Maine has hit the market for $450,000 — offering buyers an entire secluded escape for less than the price of many New York City apartments.

The Moosehead Lake escape comes with a renovated cabin and spectacular sunsets — but buyers will need to bring their own dock, as well as a boat to keep it company.

Located in Lily Bay, the pint-sized island come with a one-bedroom, one-bathroom cabin surrounded by water, towering pine trees and mountain views.

The 660-square-foot retreat has been renovated from the studs in 2022, according to the listing, giving the rustic Maine camp a modern update while preserving its woodsy character.

Inside, an open-concept living area features warm wood finishes, large windows overlooking the lake and a stone accent wall anchored by a wood-burning stove.

The adjoining kitchen has an island of its own — fittingly — along with wood cabinetry, open shelving and stainless-steel appliances.

The cabin’s bathroom also received a polished update, with a glass-enclosed walk-in shower finished with tile and a pebble-stone floor that nods to the natural landscape outside.

Despite its off-grid setting, the well-insulated home isn’t entirely roughing it. The property is equipped with generator power, water drawn from the lake, and both Rinnai and wood heat.

The roughly 0.1-acre parcel also boasts about 200 feet of waterfront, according to property listings.

Still, reaching the hideaway requires a little more planning than hailing a cab: The listing notes that a new dock will be needed for seasonal access and use.

Moosehead Lake, in northwestern Maine, is the state’s largest lake and the largest lake located entirely within New England. The sprawling body of water is known for boating, fishing and wildlife — including, true to its name, moose sightings.

The property’s annual tax bill was just over $562 for 2025, records show, and there is no homeowners association.

Nicole Hilton of The Folsom Realty Group holds the listing.
