The guy behind Barbarian and Weapons is back with a new spin on an old franchise: Resident Evil, which is getting yet another reboot movie, opening in theaters this weekend.

Directed by Zach Cregger, with a script written by Cregger and Shay Hatten, the 2026 Resident Evil movie is the eighth film in the action horror movie franchise, which is based on the Japanese video game series. This is the second attempt at a reboot movie, following the 2021 reboot, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which failed to earn enough money to garner a sequel.

This time around Austin Abrams stars in the film as a medical courier named Bryan, who is just doing his job making a delivery to Raccoon City General hospital, when a sudden zombie outbreak finds him fighting for his life. The new film is set in the modern day, but mirrors the events of the 1998 Resident Evil 2 video game. The 2026 Resident Evil movie cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Johnno Wilson and Paul Walter Hauser.

That said, because Resident Evil 2026 is a Sony movie, we do expect to see it streaming on Netflix eventually.
