More than a quarter of teams changed managers last winter. While there are unlikely to be that many changes this time, as per usual, there almost surely will be at least a few. 

Here’s a rundown of managers whose seats are warm or, in most cases, just not quite 100 percent certain to be back, starting with the hottest (most in jeopardy). Most will survive to see the 2027 season, whenever it begins, but statistically speaking, it’s impossible to believe every one will. 

1. Kurt Suzuki, Angels

Bizarrely, Suzuki got only a one-year deal. And that was from the previous regime, which elevated him from a behind-the-scenes front office role. There’s a new GM and team president, and even the owner will be gone once the team sale is improved. Meantime, the Angels, who are shockingly the only team never to lose 100 games, are in play to do so for the first time — a 4-6 finish will do it. Interim GM John Mozeliak is likely on safer ground, even with a new owner. It’s interesting to note that new owner Stan Kroenke’s Rams were in St. Louis when Mozeliak was Cardinals honcho. 

2. Andy Green, Mets interim

He’s doing a very good job (35-36 before Thursday night) but baseball president David Stearns said from the start they expect him back in the front office after the year (and it’s also uncertain Green even wants the job). There’s no reason to think that’s changed, so for today we expect a search. Alex Cora would be a coup but he’s expected to prefer the Phillies if they’re looking since he has a very close relationship with Philly boss Dave Dombrowski from their 2018 title together with Boston. Some other possible candidates include David Ross (as Cubs manager, Green was his bench coach), Rocco Baldelli, Albert Pujols and Carlos Beltrán — though this job should require previous MLB experience, which makes Pujols and Beltrán gambles. Torey Lovullo, Don Mattingly and Joe Esapda would also be fine candidates should they become free.
