Most weeks, there are at least two or three big shows or movies premiering on streaming platforms that are worth talking about, but this week, there are almost too many to count.

On Netflix, the newest season of Ryan Murphy’s hit Monster is back with the story of Lizzie Borden, the one who took an axe and gave her parents 40 to 41 whacks apiece (allegedly). You can also catch the new original dance film Best of the Best on the platform this weekend.

Peacock and NBC have gifted us with a new season of The Traitors, MobLand returns to Paramount+, and on HBO, you can check out the new music docu-series JAY-Z in 8 or Sharon Horgan’s new comedy Youth. It’s an embarrassment of riches. (I won’t even get into how there were two huge releases earlier in the week; Slow Horses is back on Apple TV and Neagley just dropped on Prime Video.)

New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, The Traitors: New Blood, MobLand and more

Sure, there are a LOT of big titles arriving this week, but for now we’re just going to focus on the ones we’re most likely to tune in to this weekend: on Netflix, you can binge your way through all of Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, which stars newcomer Ella Beatty in the title role. On Paramount+, Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren return for a new season of MobLand (episodes will drop weekly on Fridays). And if you want to watch the new all-civilian season of The Traitors, the show now officially airs on NBC on Thursday nights, but you’ll be able to stream on Peacock on Fridays.

Ryan Murphy’s got a lot going on this year, and his latest release is a new season of his popular murder-centric series Monster. Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, out now, examines the life and alleged crimes of Lizzie Borden, the subject of the famous nursery rhyme, “Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.” (Borden was actually acquitted of the crimes, just FYI.) The series will not just focus on Borden though; her tale will be woven in with the stories of other female serial killers like Aileen Wuornos (played by Sarah Paulson) and Elizabeth Bathory (Vicky Krieps), an alleged killer from the Middle Ages.

The Traitors: New Blood marks the first season of the popular reality competition that won’t feature a single Real Housewife, Survivor star, or even a random relative of someone more famous. No, this time around, the assembled guests at Alan Cumming’s Ardross Castle in Scotland will all be random non-celebs. And also for the first time, the show is being broadcast on NBC. Two episodes dropped this week, and two more will premiere next week, followed by one per week after that. Watch them as they air on Thursdays on NBC, or tune in on Peacock every Friday where you can stream new episodes on demand.

New on Paramount+ September 18: MobLand (Season 2)

The new season of the Paramount+ series MobLand (which happens to be the streamer’s most popular non-Taylor Sheridan show) follows the Harrigan family, led by Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, as new business rivals threaten their fractured criminal empire.

Tom Hardy also returns to the show as Harry Da Souza, the family’s fixer who not only has to sort out tension with the Harrigans and their enemies, but he also has to deal with problems within the family, too. Season 2 also features new series regulars Johnny Flynn (Ripley) and Ophelia Lovibond (Minx). Curious about the show but don’t have Paramount+? You can watch the first three episodes of the first season for free without a subscription at Paramount+’s free hub through the end of the month.
