Collecting sports memorabilia can sometimes breed some very interesting results.

One minute, you’re looking over a seemingly very mundane trading card in your hand, and the next minute you see a couple of convicted murderers sitting court side in the background.

That’s exactly what happened with a 1990-91 NBA Hoops card featuring former New York Knicks point guard and, later, Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson.

Jackson’s now infamous trading card features a picture from a game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the aforementioned Knicks.

And who is sitting court side in the lower bowl seats? None other than Erik and Lyle Menendez, two brothers who would later be found guilty of the first-degree murder of their parents.

The craziest part of this whole story: this picture was taken after the Menendez brothers committed their heinous crimes, allegedly purchasing the seats with money paid out from a life-insurance policy.

Sports business analyst and memorabilia collector Darren Rovell just so happens to be in possession of one of the cards (because of course he does), and he joined OutKick’s Craig Carton to share his find.

“This is one of my favorite Knicks items,” Rovell exclaimed as he held up the framed trading card on “The Craig Carton Show.” “Read the top of the slab.”

As Rovell handed the card over to Carton, the host read aloud.

“Valid: Menendez brothers sit courtside.”

Rovell went on to explain the story to Carton, who shockingly wasn’t familiar with the lore of the “Mark Jackson/Menendez” card.

“The 1990 Hoops Mark Jackson card has the Menendez brothers sitting courtside,” Rovell explained. “What’s so crazy is … they killed their parents before this.”

A shocked Carton couldn’t believe what he was holding.

“They went to a Knicks game AFTER the murders?”

Both Menendez brothers are currently serving a prison term of 50 years to life, though they are once again appealing for parole after being denied in 2025.

That hearing is set for March 2027.

So, the moral of the story here is a simple one: keep collecting sports memorabilia, kids.
