Texas defensive star flagged for pretending to urinate on field after sack in ‘idiotic move’
Colin Simmons’ crude celebration flushed any positives from his sack.
The Texas edge rusher pretended to urinate on the field after taking down Tennessee freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon in the second quarter of the No. 1 Longhorns’ road game Saturday, with President Donald Trump in attendance.
Simmons got flagged almost immediately for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, turning what would’ve been a 16-yard loss for Tennessee into a 15-yard gain and an automatic first down for the Volunteers.
The celebration from the Longhorns captain was so daunting that it riled up ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit, leaving him stunned on the ABC broadcast.
“Just an absolute idiotic move by Colin Simmons doing that,” Herbstreit said.
Added play-by-play man Chris Fowler: “It’s idiotic, and it doesn’t get much more vulgar, either.”
The disturbing display comes after a spectacular season for the All-America Second Team pick. He’s fresh off a 2025 season in which he had 43 tackles, 12 sacks and three forced fumbles.
Simmons came into this marquee SEC matchup on the road against 14th-ranked Tennessee with four tackles and two sacks on the year.
The penalty ended up not being too costly, as the Texas defense stood firm and forced a Tennessee punt. This gave Texas a chance to extend its lead with 1:58 left in the half.
Beyond the penalty, the Longhorns controlled the first half defensively in their SEC opener. They held the Volunteers out of the end zone for the first time in a half this season.
Simmons led the charge with two sacks in the first 30 minutes.
Texas entered the road matchup in a hostile Neyland Stadium environment as a 5.5-point favorite.
The Longhorns aim to leave Knoxville with no more self-inflicted mistakes and start conference play with a win.
