Marshals Season 2 is right around the corner, and after hearing from showrunner Spencer Hudnut and cast members Luke Grimes, Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means at CBS’s 2026 virtual press day, we’ve got lots of exciting teases about what’s to come when Taylor Sheridan’s first Yellowstone sequel spin-off returns.

After the team came together to fight armed men hired to assassinate Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), the Season 1 finale of Marshals saw the core characters part ways. Cruz (Santos) was transferring to D.C., Belle ( Kebbel) and Cal (Marshall-Green) were caught up in a shooting match ahead of Cal’s oncology appointment, Kayce was getting closer to Dolly (Ellyn Jameson), and Tate (Brecken Merrill) was on his way to Texas with Season 2’s villain Tom Weaver (Chris Mulkey). So what does Marshals Season 2 have in store?

“We’re all very proud of the work that we’ve been doing since May. [This] cast has endured a lot of big episodes already, and we’re only about halfway through filming,” Hudnut told reporters. “We’re really trying to up the stakes in Season 2. We have a lot of exciting twists and turns. We’re upping our production value. We get helicopters, we got a bronc riding team, we have a rodeo. So we’re really just trying to give the fans more of what they took to in Season 1. And of course, always digging deeper into these great characters that this fantastic cast has brought to life and really elevated off the page.”

You bet! In March 2026, ahead of its third episode, CBS announced a very early Marshals Season 2 renewal after the series premiere became the “best network TV launch since 2017” and “most streamed CBS episode ever.”

“MARSHALS delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment. “The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character-driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”

When Does Marshals Return On CBS? Marshals Season 2 Release Date:

Marshals Season 2 premieres Sunday, October 4, 2026 on CBS, with streaming on Paramount+. The official synopsis for Episode 201, “All Hat No Cattle,” is as follows: “When Kayce realizes Tate has been taken hostage, he goes rogue in a desperate race to save his son as the Marshals uncover a powerful criminal operation tied to the East Camp land grab. A violent showdown ensues, putting everything Kayce cares about at risk.”

When Does Season 2 Of Marshals Come Out? What Time Does Marshals Come Out?

While Marshals will return to its typical Sunday 8:00 p.m. ET/PT time slot starting October 11, when Season 2 premieres on Sunday, October 4 on CBS it will air at 8:30 p.m. ET due to an NFL doubleheader.

What Will Marshals Season 2 Be About? Spencer Hudnut And Luke Grimes Tease Marshals Season 2:

Marshals Season 2 will undoubtedly follow the team on fresh cases, but crucially, the sophomore season has several major storylines to continue. Season 1’s finale ended with Cruz planning to leave Montana behind to head to D.C., so we’ll have to see how she returns to the team. When we last left Belle and Cal they were getting shot at, so we’ll see how their high-stakes investigation unfolds.

As far as Cal’s cancer goes, Marshall-Green teased, “We’re smack dab in the middle of the cancer treatments, and without giving anything away, it’s going to directly affect the team. There are going to be some dominoes that fall because of it, and there are going to be some new leaders on the team. I think you’re going to find that it’s not the easiest thing to move through for him. It’s going to close a window for him, but open a door for others, and I look forward to it.”

We’ll also see if Kayce takes the next step in his relationship with Dolly, how Tate gets home safely from his Tom Weaver trip, and what Weaver’s next moves are. “I think what Kayce’s dealing with is really watching his own son, this season, turning 18, becoming a man, and trying to figure out what kind of Dutton man is he putting out into the world?” Hudnut teased. “There’s definitely a theme throughout this season: as Kayce found his own path in Season 1, what path is Tate going to find this year?”

As for Kayce’s love life, now that Dolly’s dad is the enemy, Grimes teased that he’ll be dealing with renewed trust issues this season. “Obviously he wasn’t having the easiest time opening up. He’s always been kind of a guarded person and losing Monica, the one person that he did share everything with, was very hard for him,” Grimes said. “Even though he and Dolly hadn’t gotten that close or intimate yet, I think he opens up just a little bit, and then that happens. Throughout the beginning of [Season 2], he’s dealing with, ‘Is it me? Am I the reason like bad things happen to these people?’ And he starts to wonder if he should maybe ever open up again. It affects him in a big, big way.”

Jefferson White Joining Marshals: Yellowstone‘s Jimmy Returns

Something else to look forward in Season 2? Jefferson White reprising his fan-favorite Yellowstone role as Jimmy Hurdstrom! While not much is known about what White’s recurring role will entail, CBS confirmed that Yellowstone fans can expect Jimmy to be the same “good-hearted yet rough-around-the-edges ranch hand who evolved from a troubled criminal into a resilient, proud cowboy.”

“I’m thrilled to dive into the world of Marshals and continue exploring the American West,” White said in a statement. “The cast and crew are stacked full of my favorite actors and filmmakers, and I’m honored to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us.” And here’s what Grimes and Hudnut had to say…

“Very simply, we’re just trying to make the best show that we can. Spencer and I have a lot of conversations about how to do that… through those conversations, Jimmy came up. It’s just a character I think everybody loved so much,” Grimes told reporters. “I think there are characters in Yellowstone you either love or hate or whatever, but I think universally, everyone loved Jimmy. And personally, I just really liked working with Jefferson. He’s a great guy. Great to be around. Good energy, great actor. So it was just born out of, ‘How do we delight our audience a little bit more this season and bring somebody back that everyone misses?’”

“Jimmy’s coming to East Camp,” Hudnut added. “He’ll be spending time in Montana. He’ll be getting to know this team, this newfound family for Kayce. We have such a great roster of actors. It’s fun to just keep adding to that.”

Is There A Marshals Season 2 Trailer?

You bet! On September 2, we got an eventful Marshals Season 2 trailer that teased the battle ahead. Kayce is ready to uphold the Dutton family legacy of “always having to fight” — for his son, his team, his chosen family, and his land.

When Does Dutton Ranch Season 2 Return?

While Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser’s Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch was also officially renewed for Season 2, there’s no official Dutton Ranch Season 2 premiere date on the books yet. That said, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that “production [is] slated to begin early 2027.”

“We’re slated to start early 2027 to film,” Reilly told THR in July. “But the room starts up pretty quick. I think we’re going to be very much involved in the room, so the next sort of six months is all about writing it.”

Assuming production sticks to the predicted timeline, here’s hoping Dutton Ranch Season 2 will premiere in 2027. Stay tuned for more updates!

Based on the Season 2 trailer, it seems Tate’s rescue will happen fairly quickly, and Grimes confirmed that we won’t see Beth and Rip on his show this fall. That said, with Dutton Ranch expected to film Season 2 in 2027, there’s still hope that Kayce could appear on Marshals‘ sister series — especially after Grimes’ recent comments about a Dutton sibling reunion.
