The Los Angeles Chargers are refusing to waive the white flag.

After Sunday’s 24-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills, five-time Pro Bowl safety Derwin James was asked if the team can make it to the Super Bowl, to which he gave a bold response.

“Hell yeah! I mean, 14-3 man. I feel like we can go still man and we’re getting better every game,” James said. “… we gotta keep attacking. That’s all we can do.”

James’ belief in the team getting better every game might be true. At least for the defense.

The Chargers’ defense had their best performance of the season against the Bills, forcing five turnovers, including two interceptions of quarterback Josh Allen.

Despite a great performance, James said he believes the defense could have done more.

“We should have had six today. That’s how we look at it as,” James said. “We don’t look at it as finger-pointing.”

Los Angeles’ issues stemmed from the offense collapsing in the second half and failing to score in the red zone.

In the third quarter, the Chargers were one yard away from scoring, but two false start penalties pushed them back and forced them to settle for a field goal.

Quarterback Justin Herbert has played out of character this season as he’s had four interceptions to start the season.

With 5:14 left in the game, Herbert threw his only interception of the game, which would end up in Buffalo scoring on their next drive to ice the game.

Allen connected on a 16-yard pass to DJ Moore to put them three yards away from the end zone. On the next play, James Cook punched it in for an 11-point lead. The Chargers would kick a meaningless field goal, and lose 24-16.

At 0-3 and a brutal schedule over the next six games, the Chargers’ season is likely over. However optimistic James may be.
