New Padres owner gets down with Fernando Tatis Jr. as beer flies after sweep of Cubs

The Padres are headed to the National League Division Series.

San Diego stayed hot against the Cubs in the wild-card series, sweeping Chicago in two games to advance. The Padres clubhouse, naturally, was full of celebrations — including one featuring owner Kwanza Jones and Fernando Tatis Jr.

Jones celebrated with the players following the team’s victory over Chicago, wearing ski goggles and popping bottles of champagne.

Jones, and her husband, Jose E. Feliciano purchased the Padres for $3.9 billion from the Seidler family in August.

The couple held an official introductory press conference at the end of August, where Jones promised the team would “win it all” in the foreseeable future. Thus far, the Padres have come out roaring in the postseason.

San Diego scored 12 runs in two games against the Cubs, while the Padres pitching staff limited Chicago to a single run throughout the wild-card series.

“It’s another step,” Jones said. “It’s not the end of the journey it’s a continuation.”

The next step for San Diego will be facing the NL-best Milwaukee Brewers. If the Padres bats stay hot and the pitching staff remains sharp, there’s a good chance the rest of the playoffs run through San Diego.
