Marcus Davenport asks for release after 12 snaps with Bears

Marcus Davenport played 12 snaps against the Jets on Sunday and a day later he’s out of a job.

The Bears released the defensive end from the practice squad at his own behest, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

“After logging 12 snaps on defense against the Jets, Bears DT Marcus Davenport has been released from the practice squad, a move that was done at the player’s request,” Cronin wrote on X.

The Bears signed Davenport in the offseason, but he wasn’t a part of the team’s 53-man roster.

He made his debut for Chicago on Sunday in the 23-12 win over the Jets.

Davenport had recorded one tackle and one pressure in the game against the Jets and Pro Football Focus gave him a 70.8 overall grade.

It also graded him a 66.3 in run defense and 69.9 in tackling.

Davenport was taken in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Saints.

Coming to Chicago reunited Davenport with Dennis Allen, the former defensive coordinator for the Saints who now holds that role with the Bears.

He has played in 15 games since 2023 and recorded just 24 tackles and 3.5 sacks in that time.
