Trump Derangement: No, he didn’t ask Iran to attack LA or San Diego
California Democrats just hit a damning new low, bewailing how President Donald Trump supposedly invited Iran to nuke Los Angeles and San Diego.
As LA Mayor Karen Bass and others chimed in, Gov. Gavin Newsom posted: “The President is advocating for an attack on 10+ million U.S. residents in two of America’s largest cities.”
He added: “This is not normal. None of this is” — when in fact it’s an all too normal case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
From Dems’ accounts, you’d guess Trump had at least made some tasteless joke; after all, he did just give out a GOP senator’s personal cell number just because the guy won’t agree to end Daylight Savings Time.
But no; it’s a straight-up smear.
Here’s what Trump said at Monday night’s Nebraska rally: “You want to see a tremendous victory [in Iran], because it verifies all the things we did. And again, remember, with the word, [the gas price rise] is just artificial, it’s a little bit high.
“It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. That’s — this is a very small price to pay, and it’s gonna be over with very soon.”
Sloppy, sure; Trump was riffing on the stump. But no way was he inviting Iran to attack those cities, nor even joking about it.
He was arguing that the temporary spike in gas prices is a very small price to pay, compared to the terrible cost of Iran going nuclear and destroying an American city.
That’s no imaginary risk: Months ago, at the height of this war, Californians had real cause to fear Iran had somehow moved a ship to within striking distance of their coast.
Rather than answer the argument, Newsom chose to just make things up — because he knows Democrats (and the media) are still so Trump-deranged that the lie will work.
Don’t engage the argument, just twist it into a smear of the guy making it: That’s how the country can expect Democrats to use whatever power they gain in next month’s elections.
