Possible hurricane threatens Alabama-Georgia game Trump slated to attend: ‘Nightmare scenario’

Two top-10 teams. An ESPN “College GameDay” tour stop. And a presidential visit.

The Alabama-Georgia matchup on Saturday has all the ingredients to make for a special college football event.

But there might be one thing out of anyone’s control that could make for a brutal situation: extreme weather.

The National Weather Service forecasted on Tuesday a storm in the Gulf that has turned into a tropical depression and could make landfall at the end of the week as Category 2 Hurricane Isaias. The hurricane center urged residents from Louisiana to Florida to have a hurricane plan in place.

The storm could make for what ABC 33/40 meteorologist James Spann called a “nightmare scenario.”

While it’s unclear what the storm could bring to Tuscaloosa, Ala., Spann told AL.com that with plenty of events in the area, he wouldn’t be surprised if the game gets moved to a different location.

“We’ve got potential for a hurricane making landfall in Mobile Bay,” Spann told AL.com. “The Alabama-Georgia game, a presidential visit, ‘College GameDay.’ You got the big [Zach Bryan] concert at Auburn. This is the National Shrimp Festival at Gulf Shores this weekend, which is huge. I mean, you could not … it’s gonna be a nightmare.”

Trump, during an event at Mobile on Saturday, announced he planned to attend the game at Bryant-Denny Stadium, two weeks after he took in the Tennessee-Texas game in Knoxville.

“They say it’s going to be a good game,” Trump said. “I would think so. Let’s see, one is rated No. 2 [Georgia], and one is rated No. 7 [Alabama], but that doesn’t matter too much at this stage.”

The SEC, in a statement provided to multiple outlets on Tuesday, said that it is monitoring the situation and keeping abreast of weather forecasts.

The Alabama-Georgia game, as of now, is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.

“Like we do every week at this time, we’re keeping an eye on forecasts and staying in communication with schools with games that could be impacted by weather,” the league said.
