Odell Beckham Jr. signs with Vikings practice squad after Giants gave him the 'run along'

Odell Beckham Jr. is getting another chance in the NFL after a lackluster reunion with the New York Giants.

Beckham felt the Giants gave him the “run along” through training camp and the preseason, and ultimately thought they costed him a real chance to make an impact with his former team. Fans were ecstatic to see he made the 53-man roster out of camp, but he was rarely used to start the season, and they parted ways.

Now, the Minnesota Vikings have signed the veteran receiver to its practice squad, the team announced on Wednesday. Fellow receiver Jeshaun Jones was also signed.

Beckham suited up for just three games with the Giants, where he had no catches on one target over 20 snaps.

Meanwhile, the Vikings need some receiver help with Justin Jefferson, their own All-Pro wideout dealing with an ankle injury he suffered in Week 3.

Jordan Addison has picked up the slack since Jefferson’s absence, but no other Vikings receiver has more than two receptions on the year. Jauan Jennings was banged up himself to begin the new campaign, while Tai Felton and Myles Price hasn’t been involved much.

This season, Addison has hauled in 11 receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown. Tight end T.J. Hockenson has been the team’s leading receiver with 195 yards on 22 grabs and one score.

Vikings fans should enjoy the presence of Beckham but be cautious considering what happened in New York. They, however, need help at receiver and Beckham proved during preseason and training camp that he can still get separated once he breaks off the line of scrimmage. Whether or not the Vikings want to actually use the 33-year-old on game day remains to be seen.

The Vikings are set to travel to New Orleans in Week 5 for a meeting with the Saints.

Beckham took to a fan’s Instagram account this past week, which shed some light on his situation with the Giants from his own perspective.

“I’m super smart!!!! But I didn’t see this one, my brotha,” he responded to a fan who commented on the Giants releasing the fan-favorite. “They got me!!!”
