High school teacher accused of kissing female student, showering her with gifts

A Texas high school teacher is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a female student after investigators discovered locked journal entries on the teen’s phone that described the pair kissing, cuddling and discussing having to hide their love.

Gloria Resendiz, a 35-year-old teacher at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, turned herself in to police on Tuesday and is facing charges for grooming and sexual contact with a child, according to police.

Just months ago, Resendiz was featured in a local Telemundo 39 report about her work as a national referee for US Soccer.

The 16-year-old girl’s parents called police after finding several FaceTime video calls, phone calls and text messages the student had exchanged with Resendiz, who had been the student’s teacher last school year, according to an affidavit obtained by NBC DFW.

This past year, investigators said, the student continued to spend a concerning amount of time with the teacher, eating lunch with her alone in the classroom and staying after school nearly every day.

The girl’s parents handed her phone over to investigators, who discovered deleted messages showing the teacher had showered the student with gifts.

Detectives additionally found locked journal entries that allegedly described a romantic relationship.

The student wrote in one June entry cited in the affidavit that it had been nearly three months since the two first recognized their feelings.

The student revealed in another entry that she and Resendiz first kissed in March and described other occasions on which the two allegedly cuddled and kissed, according to the affidavit.

The student described the two as dating and said they had to “sneak around” and “hide” the relationship.

They communicated three to four times daily, with some of their conversations lasting for more than seven hours, police said.

Resendiz turned herself in to the Carrollton Jail and was later transferred to the Denton County Jail.

The Lewisville Independent School District officials said Resendiz was placed on administrative leave and is “strictly prohibited from entering any district facility.”

The district is also offering counseling services to students at Hebron High School, which is located about 21 miles from downtown Dallas.

The Post has reached out to the Carrollton Police Department for additional information.
